Turkey, Turkiye, Hindi, Hindistan, India, Indian.... so many words so many meanings.... where did they all come from? How? Why?

Now the real story of what happened in naming the bird:

America was discovered by Christopher Columbus and crew in 1492 on his journey to find the way to India. It was first thought that he had arrived India. 
The native American bird "Turkey" was then brought back to Europe by CONQUISTADORS. Europeans named the bird "Turkey" after its related species that originated from the Turkic lands of Asia. On the other hand, Turks, knowing that this bird was not the same as its relatives that are native to their homeland, named it "Hindi" meaning the bird came from the land of "Indians", afterall, at that time, everybody thought what Columbus discovered was the land of  India...
